Adopting a furry friend
Florida State Law states that ALL canines and felines must be spayed or neutered when adopted from ANY type of animal shelter within the state. To comply with this law, we complete ALL spay neuter surgeries IN-HOUSE, NO EXCEPTIONS. All pets will remain at the shelter for 3 days following the spay / neuter surgery for observation, NO EXCEPTIONS.
To adopt from the Caloosa Humane Society, Inc. you must be at least 18 years old, have a valid ID showing your home address, show proof you own your own home or, if you rent, you must provide phone numbers of any landlord or condo association if applicable and the home owners insurance allows the type of pet you wish to adopt.
If you have pets already, you must provide the Certificate showing that they are up to date with a Rabies vaccination given by a licensed Veterinarian, and your county's license if applicable, and qualify through our adoption application process. All applications must be filled out at the shelter after meeting the pet you are interested in. The adoption process must be completed, approved and paid in full for the pet to be placed on our next surgery schedule. We reserve the right to deny any adoption. We accept cash or check only.

LOW-COST SPAY / NEUTER! Our shelter also has a spay neuter clinic for the public! We surgically alter cats and dogs 2 or 3 times per month by schedule. Prices are very affordable, from $40.00 for cats to $1.00 per pound for extra-large dogs weighing over 80 lbs! Our services are offered to the community to help stop the over-population of dogs and cats by stopping unwanted births of hundreds of kittens and puppies every year in our neighborhoods. This also will help stop the unpleasant but necessary euthanasia's of unwanted kittens and puppies, dogs and cats in your local animal control agencies and our humane society. If you want to help stop the over-population problem and lower euthanasia numbers, spay or neuter your pet!
HEALTH BENEFITS OF SPAYING AND NEUTERING YOUR PETS UNDER 4 MONTHS OF AGE. Here are just some of the benefits of spaying your female dogs....You are nearly stopping the chance of your dog ever getting breast cancer ~~ You are ending any possiblility of her getting an infection of her uterus caused by multiple breeding, unhealthy births or from being unable to birth all puppies in the uterus ~~ She will never go into heat ~~ She will never add to the thousands of unwanted puppies being born every day in the United States. ******Here are some benefits of having your male cats neutered.....Your little baby boy will have a much greater chance of never spraying urine around the house marking his territory ~~ He will not be enticed away from home by a female in heat endangering his life in the road, or being attacked by a dog ~~ He will be a much sweeter, homebody cat ~~ He is much less likely be be in a cat fight with other male cats over territory or female cats in heat ~~ He will never be able to add to the thousands of unwanted kittens born every day in the United States! If you would like more information on the benefits of spaying and neutering your dogs and cats, just give us a call. We will be happy to hear from you and we can also schedule your pet in for surgery.

The animals need your help! The shelter desperately needs donations if we are to continue helping animals. Animals are taken in any day the shelter is open. We are an "Open Admission" shelter, meaning we do not pick and choose which animals are surrendered to us, however, we only accept animals from within our service area of Hendry and Glades Counties. No Exceptions! We simply do not have the money to accept animals from outside of our service area.
There are puppies and kittens brought to us that do not have a mommie to nurse them! We then supply them with nourishment and nurturing so they can survive and be put up for adoption. Every week we receive animals in need, from starved and neglected horses to dogs with mange. The cost of these services are astronomical! Your donations are tax deductable and are critical if we are to continue helping these homeless animals. Please, donate today.

THE ANIMALS NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
Helping can be easy! There are many ways you can help the animals: Bequeths, put the Caloosa Humane Society in your Will, or you could create a Living Trust for the animals.
You could donate to the existing Animal Trust Fund which was created so we can continue to help injured animals to recover and be adopted.
You could have the Caloosa Humane Society be the beneficiary on your Life Insurance Policy.
You could sponsor the educational van, large sponsorships entitle you or your company to be advertised for one year on the van that will be in communities showing your support.
You could sponsor the Surgical Suite so we can continue providing Low-Cost Spay / Neuter to the public.

Have you thought about what would happen to your pets if you suddenly become ill or die? Who would care for them for the rest of their lives or who would find them new forever homes to comfortably live out their days? Many, many animals, who are deeply loved by their owners, become homeless or are put in poor conditions by well-meaning family members who may or may not know what to do with them. Your beloved companion is dependant upon you for their care, even if you should no longer be there. Make plans with the Caloosa Humane Society to gain ownership of the pets you love so much so they can find responsible, loving homes if something should happen to you. Don't let their future be unsure, your responsibility is to them for their entire lives.

Who We Are
We are a not-for-profit organization completely dependant on donations from you, fundraisers and what little money made from general operations. We do not receive any funds from any government, state, county or city budget or entity. We do not make money through the adoptions of pets. We always need financial backing, donations or sponsorships so we can keep our doors open to the public. Being an open admission shelter, we accept all dogs and cats from our service area that are brought to us by their owners, what this means is we do not turn any owned dog or cat away. We do not pick and choose which animal we take in, we take all owner surrendered dogs and cats from our service are of Glades and Hendry Counties.
We cannot accept dogs or cats from outside of our service area, as we are not funded to do so, nor can we accept stray animals. Stray animals must go through Animal Control first before we can accept them for adoption.
We adopt all over the country! We have adopted pets as far away as Chicago, Maryland, Wisconson, New York, just to name a few out-of-state areas. We offer safe haven for homeless pets, and find permanent and loving homes for as many as we can. We transfer adoptable pets to other adoption facilities that can help in the search for new homes. We humanely euthanize animals that cannot be adopted for the same reasons that "No Kill" shelters euthanize. These reasons are: poor quality of life caused by health or temperment issues or those not deemed adoptable for behavior issues such as feral or vicious. We do not adopt any animal that is known to bite, snap or attack in a vicous manner. We perform behavior tests on all animals to help us determine it's adoptability and for the safety of staff and potention adoption.
We offer Spay / Neuter in our shelter!
We Promote responsible pet ownership.
We will assist any pet owner with training issues to help the pet stay in its home.
We offer humane education.
We offer Microchip Implantations to the public and every dog and cat adopted is implanted with a microchip.
Our shelter must rely on volunteers for help with many aspects of operations. We barely have the funds for three part-time staff members. There is never enough time to get everything done that we need to get done, so we desperately need volunteers to assist us and the animals.
This is not an easy road to travel. We are in constant need of help. The hours are very flexible, and, with the help received from volunteers, we are able to update the website and complete other jobs desperately needing attention!
We can use a special talent or skill you may already have, or we can teach you a new one! Please, don't be shy, the animals really need you!
